Detroit Lions Details
After making the postseason a year ago, head coach Jim Caldwell’s team has bigger plans in 2017. The Lions are hoping to contend for a title this year, and they just might be able to do it with Matthew Stafford under center. Stafford had one of the most impressive seasons of his career last year, as he helped this Detroit team win games without the services of Calvin Johnson. Johnson retired after the 2015-2016 season, and Stafford’s new favorite weapons are Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. In his first year with Detroit, Jones caught 55 passes for 930 yards and four touchdowns. A 1,000-yard season is definitely not out of the question this year. Detroit’s running game should also be much improved this season. Ameer Abdullah is back healthy, and he was well on his way to a career year before injuring his foot last season. Defensively, the Lions have one of the game’s most feared defensive ends. That would be Ezekiel Ansah, who has racked up 32 sacks in his four-year career. Detroit also has a solid secondary, as both Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson are very reliable corners. The safety duo of Tavon Wilson and Glover Quin can make some plays as well.
The Lions play their home games in Downtown Detroit, where Ford Field is located. This is a unique stadium, as it is a dome that also gets a ton of natural sunlight. The venue has an abundance of glass windows, which allows for the sun to shine on the field. It makes for a more natural feel when the team is playing, but also allows for wild Midwestern weather to not play a role on game days.
